What ways does the equator affect the climate of a place?

The equatorial regions never really see any seasonal changes. Sunlight is above the horizon for approximately 12 hours each day no matter what the season. If you live in the southern hemisphere, they celebrate Christmas just a few days after the summer solstice (around December 21 or December 22). Thus their seasons are reversed. Equatorial areas tend to have a more humid climate with a large amount of rainfall.
