How to rid my pea jasmine of flies?

I have a pea jasmine plant that i am trying to grow. admittedly, i have a black thumb but i am trying my best here and doing ok so far but i have these small black flies or something that are starting to live in there & congregate around the pot. my question is how do i get rid of them? i am in the northeast so putting the plant outside is definitely NOT an option. i'm wondering if there is any kind of home remedy to get rid of the flies? (and not kill my plant)... any help is appreciated....
